Types of Elbows

Comprehensive range of elbow designs for various industrial applications

90° Elbow

Used to change direction by 90 degrees. Available in both Long Radius (1.5D) and Short Radius (1D) configurations.

  • Long Radius: 1.5D bend radius
  • Short Radius: 1D bend radius
  • Standards: ASME B16.9, B16.28
  • Applications: Most common in piping systems

45° Elbow

Used for 45-degree directional changes. Provides smoother flow transition with reduced pressure drop.

  • Bend Radius: Typically 1.5D
  • Flow Characteristics: Smoother than 90°
  • Standards: ASME B16.9, MSS SP-75
  • Applications: Space-constrained layouts

180° Elbow (Return)

Used for complete flow reversal. Also known as return bends or U-bends for heat exchangers and boilers.

  • Types: Long & Short Radius
  • Applications: Heat exchangers, boilers
  • Standards: ASME B16.9, B16.49
  • Materials: High-temperature alloys

Reducing Elbow

Combines direction change with pipe size reduction. Available in 90° and 45° configurations with different end sizes.

  • Benefits: Space saving
  • Applications: Pump connections
  • Standards: ASME B16.9
  • Reduction Ratio: Up to 2 sizes

Mitered Elbow

Fabricated from straight pipe sections cut at specific angles and welded together for large diameter applications.

  • Applications: Large diameter pipes
  • Construction: Multiple weld joints
  • Standards: ASME B31.3, B31.1
  • Angles: Customizable
