Types of Flanges

Comprehensive range of flange types for various industrial applications

Weld Neck Flange

Long tapered hub for stress distribution, welded to pipe. Ideal for high pressure and temperature applications.

  • Applications: High pressure systems
  • Pressure: All classes
  • Benefits: Stress distribution
  • Standards: ASME B16.5

Slip On Flange

Slips over pipe and welded both inside and outside. Economical and easy to install.

  • Applications: Low pressure systems
  • Pressure: Class 150, 300
  • Benefits: Economical, easy alignment
  • Standards: ASME B16.5

Blind Flange

Used to blank off pipeline ends or vessel openings. No bore, solid disk.

  • Applications: Pipeline ends, pressure testing
  • Pressure: All classes
  • Benefits: Easy access, testing
  • Standards: ASME B16.5

Socket Weld Flange

Socket for pipe insertion, single fillet weld. Ideal for small diameter high pressure piping.

  • Applications: Small bore piping
  • Pressure: High pressure
  • Benefits: Smooth bore, leak proof
  • Standards: ASME B16.5

Lap Joint Flange

Used with stub ends, allows easy alignment and rotation. Ideal for systems requiring frequent disassembly.

  • Applications: Systems requiring disassembly
  • Pressure: Low to medium
  • Benefits: Easy alignment, rotation
  • Standards: ASME B16.5

Threaded Flange

Threaded bore for screwing onto pipe without welding. Used for low pressure non-critical applications.

  • Applications: Low pressure, non-welded
  • Pressure: Class 150, 300
  • Benefits: No welding required
  • Standards: ASME B16.5

Flange Face Types

Various face types for different sealing requirements

Raised Face (RF)

The most common type, with a raised sealing surface. Gasket seating surface is raised above the bolting circle face.

  • Height: 1.6mm for Class 150-300, 6.4mm for Class 400-2500
  • Applications: Most common applications
  • Gaskets: Non-metallic, spiral wound
  • Standards: ASME B16.5

Flat Face (FF)

Gasket seating surface is in the same plane as the bolting circle face. Used with flat face mating flanges.

  • Applications: Cast iron, plastic piping
  • Pressure: Low pressure applications
  • Gaskets: Full face gaskets
  • Prevents: Bending stress on flange

Ring Type Joint (RTJ)

Groove machined into flange face for metal ring gasket. Used for high pressure and temperature applications.

  • Applications: High pressure/temperature
  • Pressure: Class 400 and above
  • Gaskets: Oval or octagonal ring gaskets
  • Sealing: Metal-to-metal contact

Male-Female (M/F)

One flange has a raised face (male) and the other has a matching depression (female). Provides better gasket alignment.

  • Applications: High pressure service
  • Alignment: Self-aligning
  • Gaskets: Flat ring gaskets
  • Benefits: Prevents gasket blow-out

Tongue & Groove (T/G)

One flange has a raised ring (tongue) and the other has a matching groove. Provides excellent sealing.

  • Applications: Hazardous fluids
  • Sealing: Excellent containment
  • Gaskets: Flat gaskets
  • Benefits: Self-aligning, leak-proof

Smooth Finish

Various surface finishes (smooth, serrated) for different gasket materials and sealing requirements.

  • Finishes: Smooth, serrated, phonographic
  • Ra (μm): 125-250, 250-500, 500-1000
  • Applications: Based on gasket type
  • Standards: ASME B16.5, B16.47
